Join Now!The details have now been announced for the Steam Frame VR system, with all the specs and pricing now confirmed by Valve. The headset was initially announced last year, and players wishing to purchase can now sign up to reserve one. We’ve laid out all the details for you below.
The Steam Frame is a wireless VR headset which promises to handle your entire Steam library, supporting both immersive VR games and traditional titles. It has been promised to be both lightweight and compact and balanced to maximise comfort and is easy to set up. Sounds great, right? Yes, but quality doesn’t come cheap, as evidenced by the pricing scale below!
Pricing
There are two models of Steam Frame launching; a 256 GB kit and a 1TB kit. The 256GB model is up for £889, whilst the 1TB weighs in at a whopping £1,089. Phew! If you’re feeling mega flush, there’s also a few accessories that you can add on as well:
- Steam Hardware Power Supply Unit – £29
- Steam Frame Ergonomic Accessories Kit – £59
- Steam Frame Accessory Replacement Kit – £49
If you are planning on purchasing a Steam Frame headset, then you’ll need to head to the store pretty quickly. Steam are running a randomised reservation list for orders. Per the team, “We wanted to create a system that would be less frustrating and more fair for everyone. A launch that starts at a specific day and time tends to reward bots, people with fast internet connections, talented gaming fingers for quick F5/refresh reactions, and those who can schedule their life around that moment. By accepting reservation signups over the course of a few days, without any incentive to be first, we’re hoping to take away some of that friction. The longer timeframe also allows us to do some extra validation on the signups to make sure they’re real accounts, with only one per household.” The reservation list is open now, and closes on September 17th at 6PM BST (10AM PT), at which point it will be randomised.
Steam aims to email successful purchasers within 24hrs, and they will then have 72hrs to complete their purchase. Once this process is complete, players on the waitlist will then be contacted. Accessories can be purchased if you are successful with the reservation.
Specs
The Steam Frame works just like a PC, powered by a Snapdragon Series 8 Processor and containing 16GB of RAM. Various games have now been verified by Steam to run as standalone games without the need to stream from your PC. Here are the full specs for the headset and controller.
